Rock Band brings the noise to iPhones

EA has announced a Rock Band game for the iPhone and iPod touch. There won't be any elaborate mobile peripheral apparatus here. Instead, one to four players screen-tap away at separate tracks for vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. That's right - vocals tap out the tune as well, which is probably just as well for a Rock Band version that isn't limited to the privacy of somebody's home. The game will ship with fifteen available plus five unlockable songs, and is expected the game to hit the App Store before the end of the month.

Major game publishers line up for Project Natal

Microsoft's TGS presentation showed a list of big-name publishers who are at work producing games for Project Natal, MS's controller-less extension to the Xbox 360. Project Natal games are designed to be controlled entirely through the use of body movements captured by a motion sensor.

Psychologist: Facebook makes you smarter, Twitter makes you dumber

A new study conducted by Dr Tracy Alloway from the University of Stirling in Scotland claims that Facebook could improve your intelligence while Twitter does the opposite. Also cited in the study that can improve your memory: video games and sudoku.  Items that can also lower your intelligence? text messaging, YouTube and TV.  So go ahead kids: post those song lyrics... it's making you smarter!

PS3 Slim sales gaining steam, lots of steam

Sony's PS3 Slim hardware is seeing a big jump in sales both in the US and UK, signalling a big catch-up versus its competition. Some reports of the US sales show that the svelte revision of the console have seen sales jumps of 50% to 100%. In the UK, sales results are showing an even grander increase, with reports showing a 1,000% jump in sales.

Tony Hawk Ride priced overseas

Tony Hawk Ride, the new skateboarding game that adds a skateboard-esque controller, looks to be launching in Europe for £99.99 [MCV has since pulled its article], which equates to about $168. Pictures of the limited edition version of the controller have also been leaked, but limited edition or not, we're sort of shocked that less lazy gamers could pick up a full, nice, skateboard deck for less than this game.

DJ Hero “Renegade Edition” now available for pre-order

The special, "Renegade Edition" version of Activision's DJ Hero music game is now available for pre-order. Laying down $200 USD nets buyers the game, a special metallic DJ turntable (as opposed to the regular version) and a two disc album containing music by Jay-Z and Eminem. Preorders ship on October 27.
