PS3 outsells Wii and Xbox in September

Prompted by a recent price drop, Sony's flagship gaming console beat both the Wii and Xbox 360 in last month's sales numbers. The company sold 410,000 PlayStation 3 consoles, a whopping 76% improvement over last year's figure, versus 390,000 Wiis and 350,000 Xboxes. Nintendo was the hardest hit, as sales of the "casual gaming console" were down 45% from last September, while Microsoft turned in a respectable 1% gain with its aging machine.

Zune HD not traveling outside of the US

According to an official word from Microsoft, the rumors that have been floating around about the Zune HD not coming to France were true. Not only is the touchscreen media player not coming to that part of Europe, but it will remain US-Only. Microsoft is instead looking to expand its video presence in 18 other markets, many of which are available in the same areas as the Xbox 360.

PS3 Slim sales gaining steam, lots of steam

Sony's PS3 Slim hardware is seeing a big jump in sales both in the US and UK, signalling a big catch-up versus its competition. Some reports of the US sales show that the svelte revision of the console have seen sales jumps of 50% to 100%. In the UK, sales results are showing an even grander increase, with reports showing a 1,000% jump in sales.

Video game sales down 29% from last year

According to the Wall Street Journal, video game sales have dropped 29% and console sales have dropped 38% since this time last year. The drop is attributed to frugal buyers and ability to receive updated content through online downloads.

Apple loses a position, now 5th in computer sales

Apple sales slid 12.4% year-over-year, which led to a decline of one position among sales rankings of computer manufacturers. The relatively high prices Apple demands for its products, especially given the recent economic climate, are believed to be a factor in the decrease. Although the maker did just lower prices on many of its models, the move came too late to save the second quarter numbers.

Activision threatens to pull away from PS3

Activision's CEO has openly mulled the thought of pulling out of regularly developing games on Sony's video game consoles. He claims that the high price of the Playstation 3 and the PSP systems cut into the profit margins for games, and to Activision, it's just plain cheaper to stick with the Wii and Xbox 360.

PS2 outsells PS3 yet again, more bad news for Sony

NPD group reports the PS2 outsold the PS3 yet again, and the PS2 saw a 38% increase over the same sales period last year, while the PS3 saw a 32% decrease. While the PS2 is essentially pure profit for the electronics giant, the $99 system isn't filling the gaps as Sony announced a one billion dollar quarterly loss last week, and if the PS3 doesn't pick up in sales, the future of Sony looks bleak.

Nintendo earns record profits but expects slowdown

Nintendo continues to post record earnings but experts caution investors that slower sales in 2010 are expected. The company's outlook may consider an inevitable market saturation with predicted lower sales of it's Nintendo DS handheld and it's Nintendo Wii consoles.
