Sony announces PSP & PSPGo firmware 6.10
Sony has announced the newest update for the PSP firmware which will include Bluetooth tethering which will allow you to snag a data connection from a capable phone. Another feature which was announced is ability to use Media Go to browse the PlayStation Store and transfer songs from your PC to  the PSP. The update will also include the new SenseMe channel for music which will analyze the music and categorize it by mood.
PSP formatted videos to premier on Sony Blu-Ray Discs
Sony will be rolling out movies for its PSP devices via Blu-ray Discs. The digital copies will only be playable on a PSP and must be transferred off the disc to the device using the PS3's Blu-ray drive. The new discs will start rolling out November 10th and the digital copies will be available on only select titles.
Changes made to Sony’s UMD-to-PSP Go program
The October 1st launch of Sony's UMD-to-PSP Go program has had some changes made to it because of "legal and technical reasons". Completely removed was one of Sony's highlights which was the conversion program that would have offered digital copies of games previously purchased on UMD discs. Also, the 3 free games that European UMD owners will be receiving will not be extended to US PSP owners.
Digital Comics coming to PSP in December
Sony announced at Gamescom today that it would be starting a "Digital Comics Initiative" on the PSP and will be rolling out its Digital Reader software in December. So far Marvel, Archie, and Dark Horse have signed on for the launch of the service with Marvel claiming "hundreds available, including the Marvel Comics stable." No word yet on pricing of the service or the individual comics.
Sony takes a hit: PS3 and PSP sales down
Sony continues to bleed money according to The New York Times: 1.1 units of the PlayStation 3 and 1.3 million units for the PlayStation Portable this quarter, in contrast to 1.6 million PS3s and 3.7 million PSPs sold in the same period from last year. The slow sales are attributed to customer holdout with PS3 (slim) rumors and the PSP (Go) hardware coming down the pipe.
Specs show PSP2 as powerful as Xbox
Rumored specifications of Sony's PSP successor (ie, NOT the PSPgo) show the device is expected to be more powerful than the original Xbox. Supposedly in development, the "PSP2" might sport a quad-core processor and could support Open GL 2.0 and DirectX 10. All of this speculation brought to you by the folks at Eurogamer.
Sony launches “Officially Licensed Product” program
Approved third-party peripherals will soon be labeled with an "Official Licensed Product" logo for all Sony game consoles. Sony will provide manufacturers "access to technical documentations" to assist with creating peripherals and accessories.
Reliable source says Sony Playstation phone is coming
Nikkei, a Japanese news source, is reporting that Sony is indeed developing a Playstation phone. Rumors about Sony creating a phone to compete with the iPhone have been circulating for years but this is the first time a reliable source has covered it.
Activision threatens to pull away from PS3
Activision's CEO has openly mulled the thought of pulling out of regularly developing games on Sony's video game consoles. He claims that the high price of the Playstation 3 and the PSP systems cut into the profit margins for games, and to Activision, it's just plain cheaper to stick with the Wii and Xbox 360.
PSP may soon get music downloads
Sony has been in talks with the other major record labels and may soon offer direct music downloads through the PlayStation Network. The service would be targeted to PSP owners, in addition to the already-impressive list of movies and TV shows available for the handheld.
