PS3 not getting Netflix firmware any time soon

Netflix, talking to G4, has revealed there will not be a PS3 firmware update from Sony until "late next year," until then a special disc from Netflix will be necessary to watch streaming videos.

PS3 will add Netflix streaming service

Netflix's movie streaming service will come to the Sony PlayStation 3 soon. The cost will be included in the Netflix subscription, although customers will have to request a free Blu-ray disc, which needs to be inserted each time the service is used. There's no word on when this will be available, but those interested can get on an email list to be notified.

250GB PS3 Slim to hit US shelves November 3rd

Sony has announced a 250GB PlayStation 3 Slim bundle headed to the US, and planned for retail on November 3rd. The PS3 Slim has a more slender form factor than the original PS3, and debuted with 120GB of storage. The new 250GB version is otherwise unchanged. This news comes a day after a 250GB PS3 Slim bundle went on sale in Europe, and American readers might note with some envy that the European version, unlike the stateside one, comes with Uncharted 2.

PS3 outsells Wii and Xbox in September

Prompted by a recent price drop, Sony's flagship gaming console beat both the Wii and Xbox 360 in last month's sales numbers. The company sold 410,000 PlayStation 3 consoles, a whopping 76% improvement over last year's figure, versus 390,000 Wiis and 350,000 Xboxes. Nintendo was the hardest hit, as sales of the "casual gaming console" were down 45% from last September, while Microsoft turned in a respectable 1% gain with its aging machine.

250GB PS3 Slim spotted in Europe

Sony's unreleased 250GB PS3 slim was spotted behind an unnamed European store counter, according to an Engadget tipster. The 120GB version has been on sale since August, but buyers will have to wait till October 6th, despite Amazon claiming the units are in stock and ready to be delivered.
