Japanese companies collaborate to compete with Intel

A group of seven Japanese companies have decided to join forces to develop a standardized processor to compete with Intel. The chip will be scalable and have adaptive power saving. The Japanese government is also putting money into the project and the team is shooting for a 2012 release.

Xbox 360 price cuts coming soon to Asia as well

Microsoft recently announced that price cuts, similar to those seen in America and Europe, will soon be coming to Xbox 360 in Asian territories. Microsoft will be holding a press conference in Japan next Wednesday where they are expected to make the official announcement. The price drops have been confirmed to be hitting the rest of Asia on September 10th.

iPhone 3GS most popular phone in Japan for July

A survey conducted by GfK Japan has found that the 32GB iPhone 3GS rocketed its way to the #1 most popular phone on Softbank, one of the largest wireless carriers in the country. TechCrunch showcases the top ten phones in the survey for Softbank. It, like many other Japanese carriers, offers advanced cellphones that are loaded with cameras and other features, but despite this, the iPhone has taken off well.

Japanese carrier shows of MicroSD cards with on-board WiFi

KDDI, a Japanese cell provider, is showing off a prototype of a WiFi integrated MicroSD card, the memory card most commonly used in cell phones. Previously, devices like the Eye-Fi, combined an SD memory card with 4GB of memory, which would allow users to transfer photos and videos to the internet without a computer. The new prototype, presumably, would operate in a similar fashion, though no word on exact capacity.
