Toshiba releases 320GB 1.8-inch hard drive
Toshiba introduced some new 1.8-inch hard disk drives today, ranging from 160GB to 320GB in capacity. The MKxx33GSG series have a 16MB cache, a spindle speed of 5,400RPM and a transfer rate of 830MB/s. 1.8-inch hard disk dries are the ones used in the Apple MacBook Air and the Apple iPod Classic. The drives are available today.
Dell receives laptop for repair, only returns hard drive
Recently somebody sent back their Dell Studio 1537 notebook to Dell due to a faulty DVD drive. He was told by Dell that the repaired machine had been dispatched, but when the package arrived it only had a refurbished 250GB hard drive and no laptop. Since then, he's spent 90 minutes on the telephone and is stuck with a 250GB HDD but no laptop. Gizmodo recommend emailing michael@dell.com in cases like this, as any issues are routed to an executive relations team.
Western Digital unveils 640GB notebook hard drive
Western Digital has unveiled a 640GB 2.5" notebook hard drive, tying Toshiba's 640GB mark announced earlier in the month. Before September, laptop hard drives typically topped out around 500GB.

Buffalo HDS-PH500U2 encrypted hard drive unveiled
Buffalo seems to be moving toward data encryption and safety with its new ruggedized HDS-PH500U2 external hard drive. The 5,400 RPM disk is powered by USB, encrypts data automatically, backs it up, and comes with mobile versions of Mozilla's Firefox and Thunderbird. The drive is scheduled to hitJapan for about the equivalent of $244, but is expected to arrive elsewhere soon.
SuperTalent unveils 2TB solid-state drive
The PCIe-based solid-state RAID array boasts write speeds of 1.3GBps and 1.2GBps read speeds, but unfortunately the company left out exactly when this beauty will ship. Drool worthy future tech, for sure.
