Sounds like the yellow-tagged retailer is teaming with Acer on a bargain-basement lappy with a 15-inch screen, 160GB hard drive, 2GB of RAM, DVD drive, WiFi, Bluetooth and Intel Celeron 900 processor.

Acer’s Veriton Z280G combines netbook with desktop

Acer has announced a new nettop all-in-one computer system. The Veriton Z280G features an Intel Atom processor and generous 18.5" widescreen LCD display, and implements a fanless design that should all but eliminate noise from the machine. Aimed at business use for reception areas, hotel lobbies, and employees with light-duty tasks, the Z280G will retail at $499.

Barron’s analyst says he has seen the iTablet

An unnamed analyst from Barron's claims that he has actually seen the rumored tablet computer from Apple. While he released very few details, he did say that the device will be announced next month and should ship in November. Also, he expects the price range to be around $700 to $800.

Apple loses a position, now 5th in computer sales

Apple sales slid 12.4% year-over-year, which led to a decline of one position among sales rankings of computer manufacturers. The relatively high prices Apple demands for its products, especially given the recent economic climate, are believed to be a factor in the decrease. Although the maker did just lower prices on many of its models, the move came too late to save the second quarter numbers.

Acer increases netbook screen size

Acer recently announced the newest additions to its netbook line with expanded screen sizes of 10.1 and 11.6 inches. The announcement further blurs the lines between the notebooks and netbooks.
