According to the New York Times, Steve Jobs will participate in crafting a biography on himself. Also, RIM introduces a new web browser for its BlackBerry, Sony quits on OLED, and more on TechVi Now.

RIM adds dev tools for 3D gaming and themes

The new features to the BlackBerry Application Platform include OpenGL ES for games and BlackBerry Theme Studio for personalization. RIM seems to be targeting consumers with these new moves.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on RIM's latest BlackBerry, the Bold 9700 (aka, the Bold 2), and put it through some real-world paces. On the whole, Iyaz felt like it was a pretty solid device, noting the BlackBerry's trademark penchant for a killer keyboard was still intact, and the new trackpad is a more-than-suitable replacement for the trackball of BlackBerrys past. RIM working on new browser for BlackBerry

A job posting on RIM's site looking for a WebKit developer may mean RIM is ramping up or overhauling its BlackBerry Browser. The BlackBerry OS is definitely due for a major update at this point and this may be RIM's way of moving its BlackBerry line into the quickly moving modern market.

BlackBerry Storm firmware updated

Research-In-Motion has released an update for the original BlackBerry Storm. Version 5.0 of the firmware will allow for better device rotation detection, gives the ability to change the number of audio alerts when an SMS is received, and fixes many bugs users have been complaining about.

BlackBerry Messenger hits version 5.0

RIM has released the long-awaited BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 application featuring 'avatars', or a profile photo in messaging applications on the device.

BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 can also generate a barcode version of the user's PIN that other users can then scan using their camera, eliminating the need to manually enter the PIN, as well as the cumbersome texting, copying and pasting that is routine for users.

Blackberry gets a music store

7digital has created an app for the Blackberry which allows users to purchase and download music over a data connection. The most interesting part of this particular software is its ability to update the quality of the media on the fly; if the user has a bad data connection it will download a low quality version which it will then update once it gets a faster connection. 7digital claims a 6 million song library which is all DRM free.

BlackBerry Desktop now available for Mac OS X

RIM released its BlackBerry Desktop software for Mac OS X on Friday. The software, which was previously only available for Windows, synchronizes smartphone contacts, calendars, email and media with Address Book, iCal, Mail and iTunes.

TiVo app for Blackberry now available

After a year in development, TiVo has finally launched its' mobile application for Blackberry devices. Users can use this app to remotely schedule recordings, a feature found in DVRs from Dish Network and Verizon FiOS.

Palm Pre rumored to be coming to China Telecom

The Palm Pre may soon be coming to China on China Telecom's network if recent rumors are to be believed. PCWorld is reporting that China Telecom, who is currently courting RIM's Blackberrys as well, is talking with Palm about bringing the Pre to China. China Telecom already has the iPhone exclusively and is looking for hot new smartphones to give them an edge in the race to capture the 3G market in China.
