Verizon unveils Motorola Droid [UPDATE]

Verizon unveiled the hotly-anticipated Motorola Droid smartphone, available for $199 with a two-year contract beginning November 6th. Featuring a 3.7-inch 16:9 touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera, and all the normal trimmings, the Droid comes with Android 2.0, bringing Facebook integration, voice-activated search, and a physical keyboard.

UPDATE: Some Verizon stores will be opening an hour early for the Droid release on friday.

Verizon to ‘charge’ extra fee for Exchange on Droid

Engadget Mobile says Verizon is planning to levy a $15 fee per month for people who use corporate Exchange email with their beloved Droid smartphones. But, it's less clear how Verizon would actually detect Exchange usage on Android devices, since they don't use a BlackBerrian server to do the pushing. We're with Engadget; just use Exchange and don't tell Verizon, because they probably won't know anyway.

Motorola CLIQ on T-Mobile today

The Motorola CLIQ, an Android phone featuring Motorola's custom MOTOBLUR interface, launches today on T-Mobile for $199. Motorola's MOTOBLUR integrates social networking features directly into the OS and also comes preloaded with software like QuickOffice, Facebook, Myspace, iMeem Mobile and Shazam. At $199 it is a bit higher than the Samsung Moment on Sprint but maybe the custom Android interface is worth the money.

Multi-touch-sporting GSM Droid demoed on video

The Motorola Milestone, the GSM version of the DROID that is set to come out in Europe this month via O2, will support multi-touch gestures— something its US counterpart cannot do despite the underlying Android 2.0 software carrying support for multi-touch events.

Motorola releases Verizon’s Droid specs

Motorola unveiled the product page for the Droid a new Android device which will be on the Verizon network. The Droid will have a 3.7" 480x854 screen, a high resolution for its screen size, and a 550mhz processor whose architecture has not been revealed. The device will come packed with a 16GB MicroSD card and a 5megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash which will shoot 720x480 video at 24fps.
