Hulu adds ‘Coming Soon’ feature

Hulu added a new feature called “Coming Soon” which shows a user the upcoming posting schedule grouped by date. The Coming Soon page allows a user to add episodes to his or her queue, subscribe to shows, and receive e-mail notifications when videos become available. Users can also embed videos that have not been released yet; upon release, the embedded video will update.

Subscription service being developed for Hulu

Sources tell streamingmedia.com that a subscription service for Hulu is being developed and tested internally.  While a subscription service won't be rolled out this year, it is rumored that Hulu will eventually become a subscription.

Hulu partners with cable companies, wants to be one-stop-shop for all your subscriptions

Hulu is actively working to become the online portal for cable companies looking to provide value-add services to their customers, a Hulu executive mentioned in a CNBC interview. Hulu is proposing a password-protected premium portal for existing subscribers, giving them another reason to stay on as a customer.

MSN UK jumps over Hulu with “MSN Video Player”

ArsTechnica reports on MSN UK's upcoming Video Player service "with over 300 hours of content both old and new from BBC Worldwide and All3Media". Similar to the US-based Hulu (also set to launch a UK version in about a month), the new service will feature full-length videos, but only after the broadcasters have stopped making the same content available from their sites.

Hulu blames content providers for blocking PS3

No shock here, but Hulu says its corporate parents, including the likes of Fox, ABC and NBC, have instructed it to not allow access to Hulu video from anything that's not a standard computer. That, of course, includes the recently blocked PS3 web browser, which was capable of playing Hulu on the big screen sans cable provider.

ABC content comes to Hulu

Last night Hulu, the popular online video site, started streaming video content from Disney's ABC network. Hulu struck a deal with Disney in early May for this content which reportedly gave Disney around 27.5% stake in Hulu. Both News Corp. and NBC Universal own similar stakes in Hulu. The first ABC show on Hulu is Grey's Anatomy with more shows coming over the next two weeks.

Hulu no longer working on PS3 web browser

Hulu, the popular online video site with content from major TV networks, has been quietly disabled on the Sony PS3's built in web browser this weekend. This comes on the heels of both a PS3 system update and a Hulu terms of service change. It is unclear which company is responsible and neither company has commented on the change.

YouTube streams over a billion videos each month

According to Google, YouTube streams well over a billion videos each day worldwide. Analysts had previously estimated just around 225 million videos were served by the popular video site in a given 24-hour period. The new number gives Google a 72% market share while its nearest competitors, Fox Interactive Media and Hulu, get 5% and 4% respectively.

Hulu Desktop: Hulu breaks out of the browser

Hulu released a beta of its Hulu Desktop application for Macs and PCs that allows users to watch TV Shows and movies without the need for Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. The application works with the Apple Remote, as well as six-button Windows Media Center remotes. The software is a direct competitor for Boxee, which previously allowed similar functionality till Hulu began blocking the service.
