Droid Eris to drop November 3rd
A newly leaked document pins the release date for Verizon's Droid Eris at November 3rd for $99 after rebate. The device at launch will be the cheapest Android device on the market thus far with the T-Mobile G1 coming in at $129 with a contract. The Eris is also rumored to be coming with a bundled 8Gb MicroSD but will not be running the newest version of the Android OS, Eclair (version 2.0), but will instead be running 1.5.
Verizon to get HTC Hero in November?
HTC will release a version of its Hero on Verizon's network next month, according to The Boy Genius Report. The feature-rich Android-based smartphone will have a touchscreen display, 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with video capture, WiFi, and EVDO Rev. A data. Verizon's version will be have slightly different hardware than Sprint's model (coming next week) and may sport a different name.
Microsoft launches broadside of new Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphones
Microsoft announced the release of over 30 new smartphone models today, all of which run the Windows Phone (Windows Mobile 6.5) operating system. Seven major phone-makers participated in the launch as well as network operators from various regional markets worldwide. Microsoft hopes Windows Phone will make headway in the smartphone OS market, where Windows Mobile offerings have been losing ground to the iPhone and Google's Android.
This wave of new products happens to coincide with Google's announcement of a new partnership with Verizon for a new line of Android-based phones and services. Expect the smartphone market to be crowded with new devices in time for the holiday season.
Big & fast: the HTC Leo
Sporting a 4.3 inch screen and a whopping 1ghz processor the HTC Leo made it's debut with some new shots. The phone will also come with a 5 megapixel camera and a dual LED flash all running on Windows Mobile 6.5.
New HTC Hero firmware rolls out and improves Sense UI experience
HTC has released a firmware update for its flagship Android phone running its highly-touted Sense UI. Engadget Mobile reports that while no new features have been noticed yet, the faster speed is much appreciated given it's been the Achilles heel of the otherwise great phone. The official build number is 2.73.405.5 and is expected to be available on HTC's site very soon.
