Samsung to open App Store for Europe in mid-September
First announced on February, Samsung is now gearing up to open its version of the App Store in the UK, France and Italy on mid-September for the Omnia and I8910 HD (and later Omnia II and OmniaLITE) handsets. Over 300 applications should be ready on the mid-September launch from partners Electronic Arts, Capcom, Gameloft, and TAITO.
Sims 3 sells 820k first month in just North American retail
The Sims 3, the latest in Electronic Arts' popular line of casual focused life simulators created by Will Wright, sold 820k copies in June in North America breaking EA's internal expectations of 700k. This does not account for the international or digital download sales which, according to Gamasutra, bring the total sales of the title up to around 2.5 million. For comparison, The Sims 2 sold a million copies internationally in ten days.
EA: Sims 3 leak not the end of the world
The CEO of EA, John Riccitiello, was polled on his thoughts on the mass piracy of its new game The Sims 3, which was leaked before its release. Because of the game's deep ties with internet collaboration and downloadable content, Ritticello hopes the piracy of the game leads to it working like a large-scale demo, where users enjoy what they already have so much that it drives pirates into purchasing.
