First Snapdragon-based Android phone will be released in France [UPDATE]

Acer has unveiled one of its first handsets to the market, the Liquid, which features a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 800x480 capacitive touchscreen, and a 5MP camera. The device will be launching in France in December with some unique features built into the OS such as geotagging for the camera, custom power management for longer battery life, and the Spinlets application made for streaming music and videos.

Acer announces 3D equipped Aspire notebook

Acer has revealed the Aspire 5738DG notebook with 3D viewing capabilities. It features a 15.6-inch CineCrystal HD display, Intel Core 2 Duo processor, Dolby surround sound, TriDef software and a pair of 3D polarized glasses that takes 2D content and replicates it in a 3D experience. Priced at $779.99 with Windows 7 Home Premium, the laptop will be available this week at select retailers.

Acer hits #2 worldwide over Dell

Acer has now passed Dell to be the number two PC maker worldwide, according to Gartner. The PC manufacturer has increased its market share from 12.5% in the second quarter to 15.4%. Acer still has an 11.8 % gap below HP in the U.S. shipment numbers. With the release of Windows 7 coming next week, some analysts believe the fourth quarter will see a dramatic increase that may soon taper off.

Acer Aspire One D250 launches with Android and Windows 7

Acer launched the first dual boot netbook with Windows 7 and Google Android today. The 10.1-inch netbook has an Intel Atom processor, up to 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. The ability to use Android may be useful in many situations, as the boot time is just 18 seconds, and full shut down time is 3 seconds. If the user requires Windows, he or she can easily select Windows 7 from a bootloader menu.

Pricing is yet to be announced, but expect the D250 to cost not much more than an average netbook.

Acer unveils Android-powered smartphone

Acer announced an Android-powered touch screen smartphone called Liquid A1. The first Qualcomm-Snapdragon Android device will feature WVGA resolution, Acer's proprietary UI, a geotagging 5-megapixel camera and integration with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Picasa, and Flickr. No word yet on a price, release date, or even release country.

Now, with rumors of an iTablet on the horizon, not to mention the launch of the multi-touch capable Windows 7 along side Acer's new notebook, is Touchscreen computing poised to make a comeback? Acer Timeline 1810T rocks LED-backlit 11.6-inch screen

Acer's has announced a second notebook today, the less noteworthy 1810T, which features an LED backlit 11.6-inch display, along with a multi-touch trackpad, full-sized keyboard, 802.11-N WiFi, and has Windows 7 preloaded. Expect this on October 22nd for $550, along with Acer's other notebook, the Aspire 5738PG.

Acer Aspire 5738PG adds multi-touch capable touchscreen

Acer unveiled a pair of notebooks today, among them is the Aspire 5738PG, which sports a multi-touch capable touchscreen. The system comes in at around $800, and includes 4GB of RAM, a 320 GB hard drive, Intel Core 2 Duo processor and is preinstalled with the 64-bit edition of Windows Premium. Expect it the same day as Windows 7's official launch on October 22nd.

First Android netbook up for pre-order

Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the new Acer AOD250-1613, which dual boots Android and Windows XP. The specs are nothing new for a netbook -- 10.1-inch screen, webcam, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive -- but this is the first Android netbook to hit the market thus far. In theory, the Android environment would allow for quick booting and probably more battery life, but we'll have to wait and see. There is no release date for the unit yet, but it is priced at $349.99.

Last three PC makers stop including Green Dam

Lenovo, Acer, and Sony have all quit including the controversial Green Dam Youth Escort filter once mandated by the Chinese government. The software was required as part of China's efforts to curb Internet pornography, but the mandate was dropped after anti-censorship pressure. Some manufacturers continued to provide the filtering application, but now all have stopped including it with new computers.
