Sprint brings WiMAX to more cities including Chicago

Sprint’s 4G WiMAX has arrived in Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, and several locations in North Carolina including Charlotte and Chapel Hill. Sprint’s WiMAX network allows for mobile download speeds of up to 6 Mbps, but is still not available in other major markets like Los Angeles or New York.

Sprint announces two 4G routers

Sprint announced today two new routers to connect to its 4G network. The devices are distinctly targeted to two different groups: the $160 Personal Hotspot PHS300S will allow up to four computers at once, while the business-class Cradlepoint MBR-1000, $250, will offer 32 connections simultaneously. The high-speed cellular data service is only available in Baltimore right now, but a handful of other cities are expected to come online by the end of this month.

Clearwire announces rollout plans to ten areas on September launch

Clearwire, the company behind 4G WiMAX technologies, is going to launch its new wireless services in over ten U.S. locations on September 1. Boise, Idaho, Bellingham, Washington, and eight cities in Texas will be the first to be a part of this rollout, with a handful of other major cities launching by the start of 2010. Events will be held at each launch where customers can purchase devices and services from newly built retail stores.

Sprint looking to expand 4G phone technology with tri-band phone

A phone that will have frequencies supporting CDMA, Wi-fi, and WiMAX is rumored to be in development, says an unnamed spokesperson Sprint. Along with this rumor is a possibility that the cellphone provider will heavily ramp up WiMAX coverage to many major US cities by 2010.
