Google rumored to have bought VoIP company, Gizmo5

The deal would give Google a solid VoIP solution and the Gizmo5 technology would probably be integrated into Google Voice and Google Talk.

Next gen iPhone on the way?

As usual with rumors like this, we're light on the details, but we've got a picture purportedly of a next generation iPhone's midboard.

We'd expect the next-gen iPhone to hit in the summer, since Apple is a company of habit and that's when we've seen the other iPhones launch. That being said, we're sure the rumor pace will continue to accelerate and we'll likely hear more about this device, if it actually exists.

The device will be launching in France in December with some unique features built into the OS such as geotagging for the camera, custom power management for longer battery life, and the Spinlets application made for streaming music and videos.

Apple TV to add $30 / month subscription video?

Apple is said to be pitching TV networks on the idea of a $30 / month bundle that would add TV network video streaming to iTunes according to Peter Kafka of AllThingsDigital. His report claims no network has signed on for the deal, which Apple had hoped to launch early next year. Also, rather than have the service be tied to a specific device, like the "hobby" Apple TV, the report claims the service would augment iTunes, which could mean multiple platforms could support the service.

We're filing this one firmly in the rumor mill, though we're eager to see if Steve Jobs' best buddies at Disney would be up for hooking ABC and ESPN up to the service.

Snow Leopard update to kill Hackintoshes

According to OS X Daily the newest update to Snow Leopard, which has been peeked at by developers, will kill support for the Atom processor. The support for the Atom made it easy to modify a netbook, like the HP Mini 1000, to run OS X cheaply. For those out there running Hackintoshes it's probably best not to update when 10.6.2 hits the update servers.

Skype close to settlement?

Skype founders Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis may be nearing a settlement with Skype over use of the core technology of the service. Previously, the founders and eBay, the company who purchased Skype back in 2005 for $2.6 billion, came to blows over use of the core technology, which eBay licensed rather than purchased outright. More recently, eBay said it planned to spin Skype out as its own company, which rubbed the founders the wrong way thanks to some intertwined personal drama between the new Skype investors and the founders. The founders then threatened to pull the license to Skype's core technology which would cause the service to be legally unable to operate.

Now, a settlement could mean Skype could keep the lights on while pursuing a spin-off. Om Malik, who is reporting this latest twist, failed to cite any sources, nor provide any specific details, but he is a Silicon Valley insider who could have knowledge of the talks, if there are any. We'd expect this to come to some sort of resolution fairly soon.

The Eris is also rumored to be coming with a bundled 8Gb MicroSD but will not be running the newest version of the Android OS, Eclair (version 2.0), but will instead be running 1.5.

Google not creating its own hardware for Android

Last week  The Street reported Google was planning to creating first party hardware for their Android platform. According to Cnet, Vice President of Android Engineering Andy Rubin scoffed at the idea of competing with its own customers. Given Google's reputation for spreading themselves thin, it's welcoming to see their emphasis on supporting third party hardware companies by focusing on software.
