Sprint announces an Android phone launch for October

Sprint has announced that the first Android based phone to hit their service will come on October 11th for $179.99 after a $100 rebate and with a 2-year contract.  The phone, HTC's Hero will have the Sense user interface which Sprint hopes will make Android a "mainstream operating system."  The phone will also have access to the 8,000+ apps on the Android Marketplace.
