Apple collaborates with Intel on new universal connector

Intel and Apple are collaborating on a new standard for connecting devices to external components, according to Engadget. The new standard, called LightPeak, aims to do away with multiple ports required to connect different types of devices (networking, display, peripherals, etc) and would supersede USB.

The standard is optical (hence Light) and should start rolling out later in 2010, if Engadget's tipster is correct.

it’s a cool idea, but then we are all going to have to buy new compatible PC’s at a higher price to be able to use the latest peripherals. prove me wrong, but i think this will be a fail.
