Facebook testing ‘lite’ version of service for developing countries

Facebook is testing a lower-bandwidth format for its site in countries like India, Russia and China, according to TechCrunch. Currently, the regular version of a Facebook page is around 500k according to our tests using Firebug, but the "lite" version strips out some of the bandwidth-intensive parts of the site, reducing page load times in areas where bandwidth isn't as commoditized as it is in the United States and other fully developed nations.
