Google maps adds location awareness for desktop browsers
Google has just rolled out a new "my location" feature for the desktop version of the desktop maps site. The update gives users with full-on browsers such as those with laptops or desktops the same GPS-like location features that appear in many smartphones, such as the iPhone. The update is available for use immediately, and is compatible with Google Chrome 2.0 and up, Firefox 3.5, and any other browser capable of using a Google Gears plugin.
